ROSH PINAH, 11 MAR (NAMPA) Real Fighters Football Club from Keetmanshoop were crowned the ||Kharas Region Debmarine Namibia Cup winners after defeating Atlanta Bucks by three goals to nil in the regional play-offs played in Rosh Pinah on Saturday.
The game, which featured the Inland Stream and Coastal Stream winners, started at a frantic pace, with both teams showing their intentions to win the game from early on.
The first half however ended goalless.
Real Fighters came out guns blazing in the second half and scored the first goal through Rudolf Witbooi to give them a 1-0 lead. Atlanta Bucks tried to fight back but were caught napping when Johannes |Uiseb extended Fighters lead with a well-taken goal to make it 2-0.
The boys from Lüderitz threw lots of bodies forward in search of a goal to come back into the game, but Fighters defence stood firm and dealt with the pressure from Bucks.
Just as it seemed the game would end 2-0, up came Weshley Klippert with a goal to make the score 3-0 in favour of Fighters to win the regional play-off final.
Fighters coach Collin Motinga told Nampa that both teams were aiming to win, but his side made good use of their chances.
I must say Bucks did not make the game easy for us and gave us a good run. We took the chances well and made sure we capitalised on them. Well done to my boys and tough luck to Bucks, an ecstatic Motinga said.
He said they will work hard to go far in the competition.
Our aim is to fight all the way. We want to represent our region well and make them proud, he remarked.
Fighters join Erongo winners Sorento Bucks and Khomas winners Swallows as regional winners in the next round.
As regional winners one of the teams will have to wait and see if they get drawn to play in another second division elimination match that will pit two regional winners against each other for a place in the Round of 32 as only 13 second division clubs should be in the hat for the draw and not 14.
