UNAM and Wanderers register impressive wins in league openers

WINDHOEK, 11 MAR (NAMPA) - The University of Namibia (UNAM) and Wanderers Rugby Club started the 2018 Premier Rugby season with impressive performances against their arch-rivals in matches played on Saturday.
UNAM extended their undefeated streak to 33 league matches since the 2016 Premier League season when they thrashed Khomasdal-based Western Suburbs 51-18 at a packed UNAM stadium Saturday night.
UNAM led the match 20-15 at half-time and a much improved second half was enough for them to win the game with a landslide score line.
Their six tries were scored by Chessborough Lawrence (one); Hilarius Kisting (one); Bradley Klazen (one); Denver Murorua (one) and Freddy Puriza (two). Lorenzo Louis converted three times from the spot and scored two penalties.
Kisting also converted three times from the spot for UNAM and scored one penalty to give the university team their 51 points on the night.
Suburbs’ tries were scored by Nikin Cloete (one) and Collins Omalu, while Justin Nel converted once from the spot and also scored two penalties.
Meanwhile, in the derby match between Wanderers and United at the Trustco United Sport field in Olympia, a well-organised Wanderers squad beat their arch-rivals 24-10 at home.
The Pionierspark-based Wanderers scored four tries and converted twice from the spot, while United only managed to score a penalty, a try and a conversion for their 10 points in the match.
Wanderers lead the game 19-3 at half-time.
Wanderers’ tries were scored by Johann Tromp (one), JC Greyling (two) and Dirk de Meyer (one). Tromp also converted twice from the spot.
Riaan van Zyl scored United's try and Winmar Rust converted. Rust also scored the penalty for United.
