WINDHOEK, 07 MAR (NAMPA) – Preparations are underway for the sixth annual Opuwo Trade Fair.
Sean Makono, assistant in the Opuwo Town Council’s Local Economic Development Division, told Nampa on Tuesday that a gala dinner to raise funds for the event will be held at the Gateway Centre in Windhoek on Wednesday.
The trade fair will take a place under the theme ‘Creating opportunity through business networking’ 28 May to 02 June at the Norman Katuta Stadium.
More cultural and traditional activities are part of this year’s trade fair as the intention is to keep the cultural attraction of the region high for tourists and visitors, Makono explained.
Registration for those interested in exhibiting their products and services start on Wednesday and close on 04 April.
A total of N.dollars 1,2 million is expected to be spent on this year’s trade fair, Makono said.
Of this amount, N.dollars 500 000 is to be set aside for the first phase of the construction of a trade fair centre.
Opuwo Mayor Albert Tjiuma told Nampa the event is not about making profit, but more for marketing and promoting business opportunities in the region.
He also said the lack of a well-equipped trade fair centre is hampering the success of the trade fair.
“The town council has availed a piece of land for the trade fair but the centre is not yet completed. Trying to rush the construction for this year’s event will not do justice to this event which everyone is looking forward to,” Tjiuma said.
