WINDHOEK, 06 MAR (NAMPA) - A woman was arrested in Windhoek’s Havana informal settlement on Tuesday for allegedly stealing from her employer.
City Police Public Relations Officer, Fabian Amukwelele told Nampa the woman was employed in a bar and is suspected of stealing money from the bar and a number of items from the adjoining house.
She started working at the bar on 28 February and on 02 March, allegedly stole bedding, a gas stove, a gas cylinder and other household items.
An amount of N.dollars 700 was also missing from the bar.
“It appears that she worked with certain individuals and as if this was not the first time she did something like this,” Amukwelele said.
He said a taxi was used to transport the items to Okuryangava, where it was recovered.
Amukwelele said people should approach the police to have potential employees screened.
He also raised concern that many victims do not lay charges against suspected thieves once the police have recovered the stolen items.
He said it is the responsibility of the owner to open a case to prevent repetition of the crime.
“This defies our purpose of using our resources to make sure we prevent crime. Those who commit these types of crimes know they are going to be released or that a case is not going to be opened against them,” Amukwelele said.
