Swallows FC wins Debmarine Khomas Second Division Elimination tournament

REHOBOTH, 05 MAR (NAMPA) – Khomas Second Division newcomers, Swallows Football Club, won the Debmarine Namibia Cup elimination tournament played over the weekend in Windhoek.
The Dolam-based outfit defeated Eleven Champions 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 3-3 in regulation time at the Namibia Football Association Technical Centre.
In an interview with Nampa on Sunday, Swallows coach Hermanus ‘Lawal’ ||Naobeb said the team fought hard to win the round.
“Our young boys showed that they got big hearts and went on to win the round. The final was not easy as Eleven Champions gave us a run for our money. I must applaud them for giving us a great game,” ||Naobeb said.
Swallows reached the final by beating Young Ones 6-5 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 in the first semi-final, while Eleven Champions defeated Kingston United 5-4 on penalties after their game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Chairperson of the Khomas Second Division, David Morgan on Sunday told this agency the games went well and applauded the teams and match officials for the good spirit shown.
“Everything went well and I must congratulate Swallows FC for being crowned the division winner. The match officials did a sterling job in handling the games with aplomb,” Morgan noted.
The Debmarine Namibia Cup, the country’s biggest cup competition, kicked off across the country last weekend and will continue with clubs in the first and second divisions battling it out for places in the competition’s round of 32.
The North-West and Southern Stream first divisions will continue with the elimination rounds this coming weekend along with the Hardap Region's second division.
