KEETMANSHOOP, 04 MAR (NAMPA) – Young people must respect their elders, the Swapo Party Youth League’s (SPYL) //Kharas regional secretary, Samuel Jacobs has said.
He was speaking at the official opening of the SPYL regional executive meeting in Keetmanshoop on Saturday.
Jacobs made reference to the Swapo government and its leadership being attacked on social media.
“We read of accusations made by the youth that the Swapo government has failed the people in many different ways such as the provision of land and health services… Is it fair that they are insulting these leaders and elders, do they not come from houses with elders? Do they insult them too?” he said.
Jacobs further said the youth must “refrain from being used by those who have political ambition that are targeting and instigating the youth to discredit the government”.
“Guard against the negative voices of tribalism, regionalism and individualism, it has the potential to disrupt peace in our country and could lead to confrontation and bloodshed,” he said.
Swapo regional treasurer, Jims Christiaan echoed the sentiments, saying respect for elders seems to be disappearing.
“The disrespect you show to your elders today will be showed to you tomorrow. Deal with the right issue at the right time,” he said.
