HELAO NAFIDI, 04 MAR (NAMPA) – Members of the Helao Nafidi Town Council on Wednesday celebrated their first unqualified audit report in the council’s 14-year existence.
Town mayor Eliaser Nghipangelwa reported during the second council meeting of the year that the Office of the Auditor-General has declared the accounts of his council for the financial year ended 30 June 2016 unqualified.
Nghipangelwa said 19 queries were received for the 2011/12 financial year, 13 for the 2012/13 financial year and nine for 2013/14.
He said for 2014/15 there were four queries, which the council’s administration corrected in 2015.
The mayor said the exit audit meeting of the year ending 30 June 2016 discussed and submitted three queries to the Auditor-General’s Office.
“However, according to the audit opinion of the Office of the Auditor-General, all three were not material or financially worth qualifying the audit report,” Nghipangelwa said.
Qualified opinions are given to institutions that have not maintained generally accepted accounting principles.
