OTJIWARONGO, 02 MAR (NAMPA) - Over 300 residents of the Ombili informal settlement at Otjiwarongo on Friday witnessed the switching on of electricity to their houses by the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored).
Cenored’s Planning and Design Engineer, Selma Nambuli told Nampa 350 households have benefited from the electrification.
“We started in August 2017 and completed it in February 2018 with the testing,” she said.
Nambuli said over N.dollars 3.6 million was used by her company to distribute electricity to the houses mostly made of zinc sheets.
One of the residents, Fransiska Katjikuru said she had to use candles and cook over a fire before.
“This is a job well done for Cenored. It is a hallelujah for me, my five children and eight siblings,” she said.
Another resident, Johannes Iyambo said words cannot describe his joy.
“Electricity is a basic need in town. I therefore thank you, Cenored, for switching on the power so we can have lights in our houses and streets,” he said.
Cenored was established by Government in 2005 to distribute and supply electricity to consumers. Its licence area covers the Otjozondjupa and Kunene regions.
