Boy commits suicide, allegedly after being slapped by his mother

RUNDU, 02 MAR (NAMPA) – A 12-year-old boy from Omega village in the Kavango East Region committed suicide on Thursday, allegedly because his mother slapped him.
“The boy’s mother allegedly slapped him after she found him doing his homework late at night,” the Namibian Police Force’s Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu told Nampa on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Coster Africa. He was a learner at the Omega Combined School.
Africa reportedly ran to the police station to report his mother but then instead hanged himself in a tree near the police station.
In another incident, a 74-year-old man hanged himself with a wire in his room at the Kayengona village at about 17h00 on Thursday.
He has been identified as Sikongo Haitana Florontinus.
No suicide note was left behind and his next of kin have been informed.
