OSHAKATI, 01 MAR (NAMPA) – A three-week-old baby girl was on Thursday stolen from the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
Sergeant Frieda Shikole of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Unit in the Oshana Region told Nampa in a telephonic interview that they suspect that a woman seen wandering around the hospital’s Ward 14, took the baby who was born premature.
Shikole said the baby’s mother had come from the bathroom at around 10h30 when she noticed that the baby had disappeared from her bed in that ward.
She said the woman they suspect of taking the baby is around 30 years old and was seen wandering around the ward, carrying a bag on Wednesday.
The woman was wearing a blue skirt and a blue and white shirt.
“We are hard at work trying to apprehend her and we are at the same time appealing to the public to provide us with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator,” Shikole said.
The matter is being dealt with by NamPol's Gender-Based Violence Investigation Unit located in the same hospital.
