Khomas Second Division starts with goal fest

REHOBOTH, 15 FEB (NAMPA) – The Khomas Second Division started off well last weekend as the teams were well prepared, the division’s administrator, Dawid |Gôogoseb has said.
“We witnessed some games of good quality as all the teams were involved in pre-season games prior to kick-off. Although the boys were inactive, they performed beyond expectation,” he told Nampa on Thursday.
|Gôogoseb said although they are happy with the division kicking off, the amount of N.dollars 60 000 allocated to it is not enough to run the league smoothly.
“It is a challenge to do everything with the amount allocated to us as we also need to pay rent of approximately N.dollars 7 000 per weekend for the Sam Nujoma Stadium. But all in all, we are happy that the league has started,” he said.
The opening games of the Khomas Second Division produced 35 goals over the first two rounds played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura.
After an absence of almost 18 months due to lack of funding, the division started on a high, with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) Football Club (FC) scoring seven goals and sitting top of the log with maximum points of six.
Rock Stone FC shipped in a total of six goals in the opening two rounds.
The opening round saw 22 home goals scored, compared to 13 goals scored away.
Average goals per match were 2.69, while the most goals scored in a match were six with nine clean sheets.
There were a total of eight home wins and three wins for away teams. Two score draws were recorded, with one no-score draw.
