RUNDU, 12 FEB (NAMPA) The Swapo Party and the All Peoples Party (APP) have nominated their candidates for the Ncuncuni by-election set for 28 March 2018.
Swapo nominated Ritha Sindjanga who is currently the district coordinator in the Ncuncuni Constituency during an extraordinary district elective conference held here over the weekend.
Sindjanga, who won the nomination with 26 votes, contested against four other candidates.
The other candidates include Joseph Kandjeke (16 votes), Felix Haingura (12 votes), Sylvia Siyiwo (5 votes) and Protasius Ihemba (4 votes).
Swapo Party Regional Coordinator for the Kavango West Region, David Hipulwa told Nampa on Monday that the total votes cast were 64, with one ballot being spoilt.
Hipulwa said the nomination process went smoothly and Sindjanga emerged as the winning candidate.
On its part, Regional Coordinator of the APP, Marcellius Haivera said they too have nominated their candidate and submitted the name to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) already.
Paulus Mangundu will be the APPs candidate for the elections, Haivera said.
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) Regional Coordinator in Kavango West, Vilho Karora said his party will not contest in the by-election as they do not have suitable candidates that can take part.
Their candidates, he explained, still need grooming and the leadership of the party felt it would be a waste of funds to take part in the by-election this year.
ECN Corporate Communications Officer, Vikitoria Hango told Nampa recently that candidates elected to contest should consent for nomination in writing and it should be accompanied by an amount of N.dollars 2 500.
