KEETMANSHOOP, 08 FEB (NAMPA) – The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) on Tuesday condemned the alleged murders of couple, Giel and Sarie Botma, who were attacked on their farm, Lindeshof near Koës in the //Kharas Region on Friday.
LPM spokesperson Paul Thomas told Nampa this week the community lost a great farmer who contributed immensely to the Namibian economy and in the transfer of skills.
“As a progressive movement, we recognise the critical importance of an inclusive and unified nation State, hence we abhor this despicable farm murder,” he said.
Thomas said the movement applauded the Namibian Police Force for a job well done in taking the suspects into custody with the help of the community.
“We now urge for criminal justice reform and a comprehensive reassessment of the penal code to place emphasis on genuine crime deterrence and rehabilitation of offenders,” he added.
LPM expressed their condolences and pledged their solidarity with the family and the entire farmers of the Koës community.
Three suspects, arrested after the incident, made their first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the case was postponed until 23 April. They remain in custody.
