OUTAPI, 17 NOV (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man allegedly hacked his girlfriend to death and then hung himself at a rural village in the Outapi Constituency over the weekend.
The public relations unit of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Warrant Officer Lineekela Shikongo said Sakeus Shaumbwako Ishitile killed his lover, Tresia Nghishiiko, 38, by fatally hacking her with a panga on the neck.
According to Shikongo, the incident took place inside Nghishiiko’s bedroom in her relative’s homestead at the Oshihua Shaalugolo village, where she was employed as a domestic worker.
“Ishitile also died after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire from the roof of the bedroom of his girlfriend after committing the murder,” he said.
The incident occurred between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
“Nghishiiko was last seen on Friday. Her cousin discovered the bodies in that bedroom on Saturday at about 06h30,” Shikongo stated.
No suicide note was found on the scene, he said, adding that the next of kin of both deceased persons have already been informed.
Ishitile and Nghishiiko did not have children together.
