ONGWEDIVA, 30 JAN (NAMPA) – Heavy rain and strong wind on Monday caused damage to houses and business buildings at the Oshimwaku village in the Engela Constituency of the Ohangwena Region.
Ohangwena regional councillor for the Engela Constituency, under which Oshimwaku village falls, confirmed that most oshanas (water pans) are full as a result of the heavy rain received in and around the constituency over 24 hours.
Jason Ndakunda told Nampa in a telephonic interview on Tuesday that a strong wind, which accompanied the rain, blew away the sheets from several business buildings at the village settlement.
“The Swapo office and the community building, where the Ministry of Health and Social Services conducts its periodical clinical health care, also suffered damages,” Ndakunda said, adding that electrical network infrastructure of the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) is also affected.
The number of affected houses and businesses is yet to be determined.
“Nobody was reported injured,” Ndakunda noted.
Several parts in far northern Namibia received good showers for the past 48 hours.
