Schlettwein unstoppable on ministerial reforms

Finance minister Calle Schlettwein is unstrained in his plans to have a raft of his ministerial reforms for the finance ministry see the light of the day as he pushes for more efficiency.

Schlettwein spoke with The Villager this week on progress made so far since the time he announced last year that finance ministry employees would be re-applying for jobs, raising fears of potentially massive retrenchments.

This includes as well the establishment of a tax authority.

“We are now at a point where the enabling of the legislation to establish a tax authority has been gazetted. Our plan to go live and migrate the existing department of the Inland Revenue into the tax authority is by early 2019. In the first quarter, we will do that,” he said.
