ONGWEDIVA, 15 NOV (NAMPA) – Swapo-Party members, supporters and sympathizers from all over the Omusati Region will stage a street march and political rally at the Oshikuku village on Saturday.
Omusati regional councillor for the Oshikuku Constituency, Modestus Amutse revealed this to Nampa on Friday, saying the march and rally are in response to a meeting held by the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) at Oshikuku recently.
He said Swapo members from neighbouring regions of Oshana and Ohangwena will also take part in the rally.
“Some cabinet ministers have also confirmed their participation,” Amutse noted, adding that Ohangwena regional governor, Usko Nghaamwa will be the main speaker of the rally.
Meanwhile, an activist of the RDP in the Omusati Region, Joshua Nghishiikoh, said the RDP members at Oshikuku and the Omusati Region at large are not threatened by the planned Swapo march there on Saturday.
He said the Swapo meeting is in retaliation to a RDP regional meeting there some two weeks ago. That meeting was held to elect delegates who participated in the recently-held RDP elective national convention in Windhoek.
Re-elected RDP president Hidipo Hamutenya was also at Oshikuku to speak to his party members a week before the meeting which elected the convention delegates.
Nghishiikoh said the Swapo-Party members have already started intimidating individual RDP members of Oshikuku after receiving reports that Hamutenya held a meeting with his party members there under a tree.
He stated that Swapo members at Oshikuku expressed unhappiness that RDP members have conducted a meeting under that tree, claiming that the tree is theirs.
