WINDHOEK, 25 JAN (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare donated food worth more than N.dollars 7 000 to the Megameno Orphanage in Windhoek on Thursday.
The donation was made up of items given to the ministry by private individuals and businesses, and included sugar, maize and soup mix.
The home also received 30 brown breads and N.dollars 500 in cash from Deputy Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Reverend Aino Kapewangolo.
The orphanage, located in the Shandumbala residential area, has been in operation since 1998 and currently houses 26 vulnerable children.
Kapewangolo applauded the founder of the home, Maria Shaalukeni, for caring for the children.
“We are humbled to have people like you in our community and Namibia as a whole,” she said.
Kapewangolo also applauded community members for their constant support of the orphanage.
She encouraged the orphanage caretakers to establish a vegetable garden to produce nutritional vegetables for the children and engage them in producing food from a young age.
Shaalukeni, who runs the orphanage at her own home, could not contain her joy.
“I am so happy, thank you very much,” she said.
Shaalukeni added that donations of any kind are welcome.
