Soldier allegedly fatally shoots girlfriend in Katutura

WINDHOEK, 21 JAN (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old woman was shot and killed allegedly by her soldier boyfriend in Windhoek on Sunday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said in the crime report issued Sunday Zya Juliet Shane Rittmann was shot in the head with a nine millimetre Makarov pistol at around 10h35 in Michelangelo Street in Katutura.
Shikwambi said the 39-year-old soldier, who was based at the Osona Military Base, was arrested and charged on three counts - murder; possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence; and negligent discharge of a firearm.
According to Shikwambi, the suspect and deceased have a three-year-old child.
It is believed that the couple had relationship problems.
Rittmann’s next of kin have been informed.
Meanwhile at Tsintsabis in the Oshikoto Region, 25-year-old Kakete Kambose allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Farm Billandonna on Friday.
According to NamPol the deceased, who was a charcoal worker, used a wire to hang himself from a tree. His body was discovered around 12h00.
The motive behind the suicide has not yet been established as no suicide note was left behind.
Kambose’s next of kin have been informed.
NamPol also reported that a 17-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning at home at Oshanashomupanda village near Omuthiya on Friday at around 21h00.
The deceased has been identified as Ingashipola Nghishiningwa.
His next of kin have been informed.
