WINDHOEK, 20 JAN (NAMPA) – Two male tourists died in a vehicle accident on the Palmwag-Kamanjab main road on Wednesday, while another sustained serious injuries.
Acting crime investigations coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kunene Region, Detective Chief Inspector Paavo Iyambo on Saturday morning said the incident happened around 10h18, about 25 kilometres from Palmwag.
It is alleged that a herd of zebras crossed the road and the driver bumped one, which resulted in the vehicle going off the road and overturning.
The Toyota Land Cruiser rolled twice and claimed the lives of a 26-year-old American and a 66-year-old German. Their names cannot be released as their next of kin have not yet been informed. Their bodies are at the Kamanjab Health Centre mortuary for post mortems.
The injured passenger, Elisabeth Bohlen, 63, an Austrian national, and the Namibian driver from Ultimate Safaris, were flown to Windhoek for medical attention, Iyambo said.
