WINDHOEK, 17 JAN (NAMPA) – Villagers at Otjokave in the Kunene Region were left without shelter after strong winds on Friday blew the roofs off their houses.
Councillor of the Sesfontein Constituency and chairperson of the Kunene Regional Council, Julius Kaujova confirmed the incident to Nampa on Wednesday.
He said a mud house belonging to Vevangapi Tjavara, one of the villagers, was totally destroyed. A shack used as a café by one of the villages was also left without a roof.
The councillor said he was informed that the roof of the new Evangelical Lutheran Church, which is still being constructed, was also blown off and the structure crumbled.
“Fortunately no injuries or fatalities were reported,” Kaujova said.
Heavy rain fell after the strong winds and three goats were struck by lightning.
