OTJIWARONGO, 16 JAN (NAMPA) - The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa on Tuesday handed over 40 new houses to their owners at OtjiwarongoÂ’s Freedom and Heroes parks.
Shaningwa said the 40 houses were constructed through a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement between the Otjiwarongo Municipality and a number of developers.
She said Government, though the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, provided about N.dollars 30 million for the servicing of the land for small business and residential purposes between 2014 and 2016 in the two areas.
Freedom Park and Heroes Park are situated between the Tsaraxa-Aibes and Ombili informal settlements in Orwetoveni.
According to Shaningwa, 360 more new houses will be constructed as from this month in the same residential areas for low and medium income earners.
Eight private property developers - Pena Trading; New Era JV Supeco Trading; DannyÂ’s Building Construction; Potenza; Oluzizi; Asla Construction; Tulaing Properties and Fundamental Trading Enterprises - have been engaged by the Otjiwarongo Municipality to build the houses.
Once the houses are completed, contractors are expected to source clients who will have to buy the houses with home loans obtained from commercial banks.
Shaningwa said the prices of the houses range between N.dollars 290 000 and N.dollars 500 000.
“To the beneficiaries, please take good care of your houses. Honour your home loan repayment so other needy Namibians can also benefit from it,” she said.
Herman Amawe, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Otjiwarongo Municipality and Government for the new houses.
