OSHAKATI, 15 JAN (NAMPA) - The search for the body of the 11-year-old boy who drowned on Friday at Epalela village in the Omusati Region, is still ongoing.
This was confirmed by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Omusati spokesperson, Lineekela Shikongo, in an interview with Nampa on Monday.
According to Shikongo the deceased, Mushinonge Ulinawa from Omakuva village in the same region, reportedly drowned at around 16h00 while playing with his younger brothers at a water canal.
“Attempts were even made by the NamPol divers from Oshakati to retrieve the body, but it was unsuccessful,” he added.
NamWater Corporate Communications Manager, Johannes Shigwedha, during a media social event on Sunday expressed concern with the increasing number of drowning incidences.
He cautioned people to be careful when walking or doing anything close to the canals and chances of the body going missing are high as many objects are already stuck in the canals.
