WINDHOEK, 14 JAN (NAMPA) Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti announced his team to face Ivory Coast for their opening game of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) at the Marrakech Stadium at 18h30 on Sunday.
Ahead of the opening Group B game on Sunday, Mannetti rang some changes in his starting squad, bringing in Absalom Iimbondi and Theophilus Junias to replace Peter Shalulile, who is not in the team, and Itamunua Keimuine, who will start on the bench.
The starting 11 will see Loydt Kazapua in goal, Ferdinand Karongee, Charles Hambira, Riaan !Hanamub and Edmund Kambanda in the defence, the midfield will be made up of captain Ronald Ketjijere, Dynamo Fredericks, Petrus Shitembi and Iimbondi and up front will be Junias and Hendrick Somaeb.
Coach Mannetti said through the NFA media officer that his starting squad to take on the Elephants of Ivory Coast has enough depth and quality on and off the pitch.
This starting line-up speak to our tactics on the day and how we want to play. Things may change or stay the same as the game progresses, we remain optimistic about our chances in this opening game, he said.
Mannettis bench will be comprised of goalkeepers Edward Maova and Charles Uirab, defenders Tiberius Lombard, Benyamin Nenkavu, Vitapi Ngaruka and Emilio Martin, strikers Roger Katjiteo, Keimuine and Panduleni Nekundi, as well midfielders Kleopas Useb, Oswaldo Xamseb and Himeezembi Hengombe.
The Brave Warriors next game at the competition will be against Uganda on 18 January at the Grand Stade Marrakesh and will conclude their group stage action with a clash against Zambia on 22 January in Casablanca.
The top two teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Chan finals.
The 2018 edition of Chan kicked off on Saturday evening with the host nation Morocco beating Mauritania 4-0 in Casablanca in their Group A encounter.
