Five die in accident near Katima Mulilo

KATIMA MULILO, 09 JAN (NAMPA) - Five people died in a car accident 70 kilometres south of Katima Mulilo on Monday.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Zambezi, Deputy Commissioner Evans Simasiku told Nampa on Monday the vehicle overturned around 10h20.
The driver is thought to have lost control over the vehicle when a tyre burst and it overturned four times. Three of the passengers died instantly, while two other passengers died on the way to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital.
Simasiku said three other passengers sustained serious injuries and their condition was reported to be critical.
“The driver, who survived the accident, was found to have a fake driver’s licence and a case of culpable homicide, reckless driving and driving a vehicle without a licence was opened against him,” he said.
The deceased have been identified as Fidelis Mukushi Masule,71; Luze Linda Kachana,21; Isack Romanus Kazanga,19; and Ndozi Mubita, whose age is unknown.
Their next of kin have been informed.
The identity of another man who died in the accident was unknown.
