WALVIS BAY, 04 JAN (NAMPA) - A 10-year-old boy drowned at Henties Bay on Wednesday after being swept out to sea along with four other boys.
Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Thursday identified the deceased as Lee-Wayne Delwin Nanubeb.
The incident occurred around 14h00 while the boys were swimming.
Iikuyu said a young man who was passing by saw what had happened and attempted to rescue them.
“He only managed to rescue four of the boys. The youngest of the survivors is currently in the Swakopmund State Hospital,” said the deputy commissioner.
The survivors are aged between six and nine.
Iikuyu said police officers and divers are still at the scene searching for the body of the deceased.
His next of kin have been informed.
In another crime report from Swakopmund on Wednesday, a concealment of birth was registered after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a refuse bin in the Vineta residential area.
A member of the public informed the police about the discovery.
“The suspect is still unknown and investigations continue,” Iikuyu said in the report.
