WALVIS BAY, 19 DEC (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man lost his life on Monday after he was stabbed while leaving a toilet at Outapi Bar in Walvis Bay.
Gideon Veorerako was allegedly stabbed in the throat with a knife by a 29-year-old man, who was assaulted in the face with a broken bottle by another man who ran out of the bar.
A police incident report from Namibian Police Erongo Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Tuesday said the deceased asked the suspect what was happening when he saw him holding a knife, his face bleeding.
“Without any reply, the suspect stabbed him in the throat. The victim was rushed to a hospital in Walvis Bay and later transferred to Windhoek, where he died,” reads the police report.
Iikuyu said the suspected killer took out a knife with the intention to stab the man who attacked him with the bottle, but the attacker fled from the bar when he saw the weapon.
Veorerako, who was in the toilet at that time, then became the victim after asking what was going on, Iikuyu noted.
He said due to the injuries from the broken bottle, the suspect was admitted to hospital under police guard and is expected to be charged and appear in court immediately after being discharged.
The deceased’s next of kin are informed.
