ONGWEDIVA, 12 DEC (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region arrested two men in connection with two murders committed at separate venues in the region over the weekend.
Warrant Officer Lineekela Shikongo revealed this in a regional crime report availed to Nampa on Tuesday.
Shikongo stated that a 26-year-old man was arrested shortly after stabbing to death Haipumbu Natanael Natangwe, 24, at the Oikokola village in the Omusati Region’s Etayi Constituency on Sunday.
Natangwe was stabbed once on the left side of the chest with an Okapi knife. He died on the scene.
“The motive behind the murder is not known so far, as it is alleged that they did not argue,” stated Shikongo, adding that investigations continue.
The second murder incident occurred during midnight at the Onandjila village’s Ontetakeno location in the Omusati Region’s Okahao Constituency on Monday.
Shikongo said a 27-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in this murder case.
The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Johannes Amukoto, who was also stabbed on the left of his chest with an Okapi knife and died on the scene.
The same suspect is also believed to have stabbed and injured a second man, who is now admitted to the Okahao District Hospital in a stable condition.
Shikongo withheld the names of the suspects as he was not sure whether they appeared in court on Tuesday as was expected.
Omusati NamPol also recorded the death of a 35-year-old woman who died after the shack in which she was sleeping caught fire.
This took place at around 21h45 at the Ongolo-nongeyama village in the Ruacana Constituency on Monday.
“The cause of the fire is not yet established, but there is a possibility that it could have been caused by a candle as the deceased normally used a candle in her shack,” Shikongo explained.
The deceased has been identified as Herodia Kafute Moses.
The next of kin of the deceased persons have been notified.
