RUNDU, 11 DEC (NAMPA) – Three suspects believed to have robbed a woman in Rundu of N.dollars 100 000 on Thursday last week were apprehended in Oshakati, in the Oshana Region.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator in Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday.
He said only three suspects of the four suspects that allegedly robbed a woman were arrested on Thursday, some hours after the incident happened. One of the suspects, according to Kanyetu, is still at large.
The three are expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
The woman was robbed on Thursday after she withdrew the money at a local bank and was subsequently followed after she boarded a taxi that took her to her home at the safari residential area, where the incident took place.
Only N.dollars 6500 of the N.dollars 100 000 was recovered.
Kanyetu warned members of the public to be vigilant during the festive season and not withdraw large sums of money when they go to the bank or at least make sure they are accompanied by someone they trust.
He also urged business establishments to install surveillance cameras inside and outside their premises so that they can help NamPol to fight these types of crimes.
Kanyetu also warned business owners not to leave large sums of money at their premises, referring to an incident where N.dollars 18 000 was stolen at a butchery in Rundu two weeks ago.
