Fraudster receives a fine

OSHAKATI, 06 DEC (NAMPA) – The Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Bernard Petrus to a fine of N.dollars 3 000 of which N.dollars 1 000 was suspended for a period of three years for fraud.
Magistrate Helena Ekandjo granted the N.dollars 1 000 fine suspension on condition that Petrus is not convicted of fraud during the period of suspension.
Petrus, 49, was sentenced for fraud committed at the Ackermans shop at the Oshana Mall in Ongwediva on 13 October this year.
Ackermans suffered a loss of over N.dollars 5 800, following a credit agreement that Petrus entered into with the shop, using an identity document which did not belong to him.
He presented the identity document belonging to Iyambo Shakela Mbala.
Petrus was also sentenced to a fine of N.dollars 1 000 for giving a false name (Iyambo Shakela Mbala) to a police officer upon his arrest at Ongwediva on 14 October 2017.
Prosecutor Chrisna Masule represented the state, while Petrus was defended by local legal practitioner, Melvin Nyambe from the Shikongo Law Chambers.
