WINDHOEK, 01 DEC (NAMPA) – The Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) has called for the immediate removal of the board of directors of the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) and its entire management with immediate effect.
This call was made by Nanso Khomas Secretary General, Shoki Kandjimi in response to the NSFAF’s failure to appear before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Thursday.
“This is why we are in this mess as students, because of unaccounted transactions and the ongoing clashes between the fund’s management and board,” Kandjimi said.
He said the board and management should be fired, because of the distress their actions have brought to students.
NSFAF Chief Executive Officer, Hilya Nghiwete and her management were supposed to answer questions on N.dollars 1.7 billion which has been unaccounted for, between the financial years 2009 and 2013.
They announced their inability to attend the meeting through a letter to the Standing Committee, asking for more time to scrutinise documents.
Committe Chairman, Mike Kavekotora, who did not accept the letter, informed the hearing that NSFAF will be subpoenaed in February 2018, as soon as Parliament opens its session for the year 2018, to explain what happened to the money.
