RUNDU, 27 NOV (NAMPA) – No serious crimes were reported over the weekend in the Kavango East Region, greatly due to Operation Basadi, the Namibian Police (NamPol) at Rundu said.
NamPol Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday that only “not so serious” crimes, such as common assault, were recorded.
Kanyetu linked the incidences of no serious crime in the region to Operation Basadi, saying it was fierce and was conducted in the region from Friday to Monday morning.
“Concurrently, the operation was carried out by female officers from the Ministry of Safety and Security in the region, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs (and Immigration), women from neighbourhood watches [groups] and the women and men network against crime,” Kanyetu explained.
He said the operation focused on creating visibility in the town and also had a roadblock where a lot of vehicles and people were searched.
The operation also focused on gender-based violence cases, housebreaking, stolen property and community members, amongst others.
The operation managed to recover some stolen property, said Kanyetu.
“I really hope this trend of not having serious crimes in the region continues,” he said.
