Pensioner arrested with game products released on bail

RUNDU, 22 NOV (NAMPA) – A 95-year-old headman who was arrested on Monday for possession of controlled wild game products, has been released on bail.
Poullus Harupe Kaputungu was given a bail of N.dollars 500 by Magistrate Vivian Ndlovu in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for him to acquire legal representation and for further investigations into the matter.
The pensioner, who is the headman of the Mashare village in the Kavango East Region, was arrested on Monday by the Namibian Police Force at that village when he was found in possession of one crocodile skin, two clawless otter skins and three python skins.
He was charged under the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act of 2008.
The value of the products is still unknown and the case was remanded to 04 January 2018.
The village is situated about 45 kilometres east of Rundu.
