ECN approves DTA name change

WINDHOEK, 22 NOV (NAMPA) -The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has approved the name change of the DTA of Namibia to the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM).
In a media statement issued here Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer Paul Isaak said the name change and new logo will be published through a notice in the Government Gazette.
A registered political party may lodge within 30 days from the date of publication of the notice an objection to the Commission to any particular contained therein.
Isaak said when an objection is lodged, the commission must within 14 days of the receipt thereof, make a determination thereon and serve a notice thereof on the registered political party whose particulars have changed and against whom the objection has been lodged, as well as the registered political party who lodged the objection.
The official opposition party was rebranded and renamed earlier this month as part of its transformation process.
The ECN approval comes in the wake of National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) presidential spokesperson, Joseph Kauandenge, last week accusing PDM of stealing his party’s name.
Before forming a coalition with Nudo ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in 2014, Kauandenge was the president of the People's Democratic Movement, also known as the PDM.
