WINDHOEK, 20 NOV (NAMPA) - The Namibian Embassy in Germany has formed an association, Freunde Verein Namibias (FVN), to achieve economic and social justice.
The association known as Friends of Namibia Association in English, aspires to establish a common forum for all public, business and civil society members of both countries to strengthen the special relations for moral and historical reasons.
A media statement issued on Monday by Deputy Head of Mission in Germany, Simeon Uulenga said the idea of the association was inspired by of President Hage Geingob’s statement during his address of the Namibian Heads of Mission in June 2016, when he called on international relations, cooperation and partnerships with those charting common developmental paths.
“Freunde Namibias Verein aims to establish branches in all 16 federal states of Germany and all Namibian regions, public, private and civic stakeholders to give concrete practical meaning through joint light projects,” the statement said.
Speaking at the launch in Berlin on Thursday, Namibia’s Ambassador to Germany Andreas Guibeb said the purpose of the association is also to promote the deepening of the German-Namibian special relations at all levels through binational partnerships between the German Bundestag and the Namibian National Assembly as well as National Council, chambers of commerce and academic institutions, among others.
The association follows the constitutional and the organisational model of the International Handelskammer of Germany, which comprises both German and other countries’ chambers of commerce and individual entrepreneurs of both countries.
