Geingob urges delegates to vote right

ONGWEDIVA, 17 NOV (NAMPA) – Swapo presidential candidate, Hage Geingob has called on delegates to the party’s 6th ordinary congress to be held in Windhoek from 23 to 26 November, to vote for his Team Harambee.
Geingob’s slate includes Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for vice-president, Sophia Shaningwa for secretary-general (SG) and Marco Hausiku for deputy SG.
Speaking during his campaign rally at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region on Thursday, Geingob said his team is a gender-balanced leadership, including two men and two women, as per the Swapo policy of 50-50 gender representation.
Geingob told the 264 delegates from different regions that gathered here for the rally that his team consists of loyal and tested cadres of the party.
“Voting for me alone - you are denying me the team I want to work with,” Geingob explained, adding that all members of his team have been democratically nominated and adopted by both the Swapo politburo and central committee.
He added that former Minister of Defence Nahas Angula and Minister of Sports, Youth and National Service Jerry Ekandjo, who are other presidential candidates under Team Swapo, are not his political opponents.
“We are contestants and are all members of Swapo. We are not from different political parties,” stated Geingob, who is the party’s vice-president and president of the country.
Meanwhile, Geingob condemned Team Swapo for saying his leadership has made Swapo and government weak.
According to him, it makes no sense for those contesting under Team Swapo to blame the leadership that they are also part of as ministers and/or members of the Swapo politburo and central committee.
He noted that some of his distractors in Team Swapo are the people he defeated in the previous congress and as his comrades, he later “picked them up” and appointed them for ministerial positions in Government.
Speaking at the same meeting, Shaningwa accused some Swapo members in the Oshana Region of instigating others not to attend Geingob’s campaign meeting at Ongwediva.
“Shame on you for sending text messages to people informing them that they should not go to attend Team Harambee meeting,” Shaningwa bemoaned.
Hausiku also attended the meeting and informed those present that Team Harambee possesses the needed experience.
