NKURENKURU, 09 NOV (NAMPA) – Swapo’s regional office in Kavango West is still to pronounce itself on who it will back at the upcoming sixth party congress, its regional coordinator David Hamutenya has said.
Speaking to Nampa at the official inauguration of the party’s Kavango West regional office by President Hage Geingob on Wednesday, Hamutenya said the region will make its decision public in the next few days.
He said one of the reasons why its endorsement has not been declared publicly, is that the regional executive committee still has not held a meeting to make a collective decision.
“We are still waiting for the regional executive committee to sit,” said the regional coordinator.
Hamutenya further said the elected delegates going to congress have however already indicated who they are going to support at the congress.
The regional executive committee is expected to make its announcement after its meeting slated for next Friday.
Kavango West has elected 43 delegates to represent the region at the sixth Swapo congress, which takes place from 23 to 27 November in Windhoek.
President Hage Geingob will contest the party presidency against former Prime Minister Nahas Angula and Youth, Sport and National Service Minister, Jerry Ekandjo.
Geingob's slate for the remainder of the top four positions are Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for vice president, Rural and Urban Development Minister Sophia Shaningwa for secretary general (SG), and former Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku for deputy SG.
