WINDHOEK, 08 NOV (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MPESW) received 400 solar-powered radios from Epupa Investech on Wednesday.
The radios were donated to pensioners and people with disabilities to listen to news and other radio programmes.
Receiving the donation, Minister Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare Zephania Kameeta thanked Epupa Investech for their donation while calling for continued support towards poverty eradication.
“It’s a responsibility of all citizens to give to the senior citizens and people with disability,” said Kameeta.
He asked individuals, businesses, Public Private Partnerships and civil society to assist the ministry in eradicating poverty in Namibia.
Epupa Investech has been awarded the tender by the MPESW to distribute monthly pension grants across the country.
Director of Epupa Investech, Shali Ben-Elungu said the beneficiaries of the donation were selected randomly from all 14 regions, adding that only 25 pensioners per region will receive radios.
Ben-Elungu said pensioners who are not going to benefit from current donation, should be patient as other donations will follow in the future.
Two beneficiaries, Uatiraije Mbinge from Okorosave, Opuwo district and Jochbeth Muraranganda from Ovitoto area in the Otjozondjupa Region, told Nampa that they cannot read and write and that they only listen to the radio on a daily basis, particularly when awaiting announcements about pension grants, which are made on radio.
The two pensioners thanked the government through MPESW and Epupa Investech for giving them the radios and the usual support.
