RUNDU, 06 NOV (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old man was shot in both his legs by members of the public, who apparently saw him and two others trying to break into a house at the Rainbow village Friday evening.
These unknown number of people got into a car and chased after the three, said Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu.
“We are still trying to identify the vehicle because after shooting, the people just sped off in a white car,” Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday.
He said the man was shot while he and the two other suspected robbers were jumping over gates.
The deputy commissioner said they are looking for the car and people in it, as they were supposed to report the case to the police and by Monday afternoon but still had not done so.
A case of attempted murder has been opened against the shooters.
Kanyetu said the police have the bullet casings from the gun used.
“However in order to know from which gun these cartridges were fired, we need to find the gun used as well,” Kanyetu said.
The injured man is currently hospitalised in the Rundu State Hospital.
Kanyetu said this man is not willing to cooperate with the police as he gave them a false name, while also withholding the identity of the other two men.
However, a police visit to his family revealed his identity, said Kanyetu.
