WINDHOEK, 04 NOV (NAMPA) – The 2017 football season of the Khomas School Sport Region (KSSR) came to an exciting end on Saturday at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Centre in Windhoek.
The KSSR allows schools in the Khomas Region to compete amongst each other in football, netball, rugby, volleyball and basketball in the different age categories.
On Saturday Ella du Plessis High School, Khomas High School and Eldorado High School were crowned champions of their respective divisions after impressively overcoming their opponents at the NFA technical centre.
The Under-15 category saw Ella du Plessis and Hochland High lock horns and after 90 minutes of football, the two teams were level at two-all and the game was decided on penalty kicks.
Ella du Plessis came out victorious with a 6-5 score.
In the U-17 category Khomas High beat Centaurus High 6-0 to be crowned champions of that division, while in the U-19 category Eldorado High defeated the Centaurus senior team 5-1 to take the title in that division.
Speaking to Nampa after the game, KSSR vice-chairperson Bertus Bock said this year the games were well organised and credit should be given to the schools that made everything possible.
“We started with our games early and I need to thank the teachers who made sure their schools were on time. We should also thank our sponsors Auas Motors, which made sure we had all the trophies and medals for the teams that competed,” Bock said.
He added that the level of maturity shown by the players during the 2017 season is an indication that school sports is growing in the region.
He also said discipline throughout the competition was really good, which shows that the teachers and principals are doing a good job at their schools.
“Parents should also be commended for allowing the children to compete in this competition because without their support, there would be no KSSR,” stated Bock.
