Two men arrested for protected wildlife possession

WINDHOEK, 02 NOV (NAMPA) – Two men were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of a live pangolin and other items derived from protected wildlife at the Ndiyona road block in Kavango East on Wednesday.
The daily crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Thursday said the suspects, aged 24 and 25, were allegedly found in possession of the skin of a baby crocodile and adult crocodile and six honey badger toes after being searched.
The arrests were made at about 15h30.
The value of the items is not yet determined and police investigations continue.
In an unrelated case, the body of a 66-year-old man was found at Village Council Post near Koës Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Gert Slammert.
The police report said it is thought that a tree might have fallen on him, causing head injuries. A post-mortem will however be conducted to determine the cause of death.
His next of kin have been informed and police investigations are underway.
In Lüderitz, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Wednesday.
According to the report, the incident occurred between 06h00 and 07h00 in the laundry room of the Correctional Service’s male barracks.
The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and police investigations continue.
