Salionga appointed Acting High Court Judge

WINDHOEK, 01 NOV (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob has appointed Johanna Salionga as an Acting Judge of the High Court.
The announcement was made by Supreme Court Justice Peter Shivute in a media release on Wednesday.
It said Salionga will be the Acting Judge of the High Court from 01 November 2017 until 30 March 2018.
Salionga, who is currently serving as the Chief Magistrate in charge of the Magistrate’s Courts, has been involved with law for over 14 years.
She first served as an Additional Magistrate from 1992, then as a Senior Magistrate from 1994 before being promoted to Principal Legal Officer in 1998.
Salionga served as Acting Chief Magistrate from 2003 until 2006, when she was promoted to her current position. It was upon this promotion that she started serving as a Deputy Master of the High Court of Namibia until August 2015.
She holds a Diploma in Development Studies and Management, Diploma in Law from the United Nations Institute of Namibia in Lusaka, Zambia and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Free State in South Africa.
The new Acting Judge of the High Court also participated in the basic Aspirant Judges' Training programmes in 2015 and 2016. This programme offers training to magistrates and judges’ researchers to empower them to aspire for appointment to the High Court.
