WINDHOEK, 31 OCT (NAMPA) - The Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy has been named as the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Best Africa Promoter for the fifth consecutive year.
A media release from the academy Tuesday said the announcement was made during a WBO convention on a cruise ship from Miami to Cuba from 23 October to 27 October.
The honour was bestowed on the academy and its founder and current promoter, Nestor Tobias, for their outstanding contribution to boxing, setting up professional bouts, quality of the fights, their frequency, and their entertainment value.
He accepted the award in absentia.
“We are honoured to be recognised by the WBO and we are therefore accepting this award not on our own behalf, but on behalf of all our loyal boxing fans, our main sponsor MTC and our dedicated boxers who are committed to the sport of boxing,” Tobias was quoted as saying in the statement.
WBO President, Francisco Varcarcel said in the statement they have no doubt that the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy deserves this award as the very best in Africa and of course a leading force to be reckoned with in the world of boxing.
Tobias also last Friday walked away with the Coach of the Year Award at the MTC Namibia Sports Commission Sports Awards and was also inducted as an MTC Sports Legend along with all his former champions Paulus Moses, Paulus Ambunda and Julius Indongo.
