WINDHOEK, 30 OCT (NAMPA) - Local boxer Willbeforce Shihepo, who allegedly caused an accident that led to the deaths of two people on Saturday, was denied bail in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The accident occurred on the Windhoek-Okahandja road and claimed the lives of Likius Petrus, 54, and Toivo Linda Teopoline Nghipuyoonda, 6.
A statement issued by the Namibian Police Force on Monday said the 34-year-old Shihepo handed himself over to the police at Okahandja Monday morning.
Shihepo faces five charges - culpable homicide; failure to ascertain the nature and extent of injuries sustained by a person after an accident; failure to render assistance to injured person(s) after an accident; failure to ascertain the extent of damage after an accident; and operating a vehicle which is not roadworthy.
Magistrate Khaepriums Swartz postponed the case to 27 November for further investigations.
An earlier crime report said the accident occurred about 30 kilometres outside Okahandja at around 20h20.
It also said the Jaguar which caused the accident was not roadworthy.
The driver of that car drove into the Toyota sedan from the rear, causing a severe impact which resulted in the instant death of Petrus and Nghipuyoonda; the only occupants.
The driver fled the scene.
