Police officer dies in car accident

WINDHOEK, 29 OCT (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old police officer died on the road between Onamatanga and Omakange in the Omusati Region after the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in allegedly lost control, causing it to overturn at around 18h45 on Friday.
Crime Investigation Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) in Kunene Region, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu told Nampa that the deceased was identified as Simon Shikondombolo, a police officer at Onamatanga police station holding the rank of constable.
“There were three occupants in the vehicle including the 27-year-old driver,” Kanyetu told Nampa.
Shikondombolo, according to Kanyetu, died on the scene while the other occupant sustained serious injuries, but is reportedly in a stable condition at Opuwo District Hospital where he is admitted.
The deceased’s next of kin were informed.
The driver, who allegedly did not have a driver’s licence also sustained serious injuries and his condition has also been reported as stable in the Opuwo hospital.
A case of culpable homicide has been registered against the driver.
