SWAKOPMUND, 26 OCT (NAMPA) - A 46-year-old man from Arandis in the Erongo Region allegedly committed suicide by hanging after overturning his friend’s double-cab vehicle on Wednesday.
Sageus Simaneka Panduleni Kalonda was given the car to drive by his friend who came to visit him in Arandis on Tuesday.
Kalonda allegedly decided to drive to Swakopmund on Wednesday between 01h00 and 02h00 without informing the car owner.
It is alleged that he lost control of the car and overturned it 30 kilometres before Swakopmund.
Kalonda’s body was found hanging from the roof of his garage in Arandis the same Wednesday morning. Police said it was not yet clear how he got home.
“An eye witness told the police that he saw a Mercedes Benz sedan loading up a person from the accident scene, probably Kalonda, but when he tried to chase the Benz and get the registration number he could not catch it,” Crime Investigations Coordinator in Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said in a Thursday crime report.
Iikuyu said the deceased did not leave a suicide note, and no foul play is suspected. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.
