SWAKOPMUND, 24 OCT (NAMPA) - A sheep herder from Farm Domeb in the Karibib area managed to save his life when two leopards attacked him.
The incident happened at about 10h00 on Monday while 59-year-old David Dantatzao was herding sheep in the veld.
“He managed to kill one young female leopard with a pocket knife and a spear,” reads a police incident report from Crime Investigations Coordinator in Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Tuesday.
Iikuyu said the spotted cats almost mauled him to death and despite his age, Dantatzao bravely fought them off.
“He sustained serious injuries and is now admitted in the Usakos State Hospital in a stable condition.”
Iikuyu could not provide further details of how the fight happened; whether the cats attacked the sheep and the herder tried to rescue them or whether he provoked the leopards.
