ONGWEDIVA, 22 OCT (NAMPA) – A fire broke out at the Ongwediva Town Lodge at around 16h00 on Saturday, destroying the lodge and damaging the neighbouring Hotel Destiny.
The owner of the lodge, Hafeni Shiponeni in a telephone interview with Nampa on Saturday said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
“Certain people were reportedly having a braai near the swimming pool, but that is yet to be confirmed,” Shiponeni said.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Oshana Region, Warrant Officer Thomas Aiyambo in a regional crime report issued on Saturday said the fire extended to the neighbouring Hotel Destiny where it damaged the bar and a block of rooms.
“Fire fighters from Ongwediva, Oshakati and Ondangwa were summoned for the rescue, but could do little to reduce the blaze,” Aiyambo noted.
He also said the cost of the damage caused had not yet been established.
