WINDHOEK, 18 OCT (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Firearm Control Division on Wednesday called on people to collect confiscated firearms from the Wanaheda Police Station before 31 January 2018.
There are 19 firearms, mostly pistols and handguns, confiscated during operations by NamPol as part of their public safety control measures.
A media statement issued by NamPol spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi on Wednesday said the firearms were confiscated from people who could not provide licences and those who were in possession of firearms at drinking outlets.
“By law it is not allowed for one to be in possession of a firearm at a drinking outlet, regardless of whether you have a licence or not,” said Shikwambi.
She warned that if the firearms are not collected by 31 January 2018, they will be destroyed.
