WINDHOEK, 18 OCT (NAMPA) Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and First National Bank (FNB) were on Wednesday confirmed as sponsors of the 2017/18 Namibia Premier League (NPL) season.
At an event held in Windhoek, MTC was unveiled as platinum sponsor with a commitment of N.dollars 15 million, while FNB is gold sponsor with a contribution of N.dollars 5 million annually for three years.
The sponsorship is adjustable according to the annual inflation rate.
NPL Chairperson Patrick Kauta thanked the two sponsors for coming on board, saying they are looking forward to an exciting season.
It has been over a year since the football league was active, but that is coming to an end on Friday as African Stars and Orlando Pirates will kick off the league season, Kauta said.
He added that during the absence of football in Namibia, the NPL sorted out its constitution which has now enabled the league to kick off. The league is expected to end in May 2018.
Kauta said each club will receive N.dollars 65 000 monthly as a grant for the next 10 months.
MTCs logo will be displayed on the front of all 16 clubs jerseys, while FNBs logo will be displayed on top of the numbers on the back of the jerseys.
The winners will take home N.dollars 1 million.
The NPL was left in limbo after a three-year sponsorship deal from MTC expired in May last year.
Efforts to source sponsorship for the 2016/17 season failed after the league presented a N.dollars 21 million budget to potential sponsors, with MTC only availing N.dollars 15 million.
